The Haunted Mansion’s New Look at Magic Kingdom

Just in time for the start of Halloween season at Walt Disney World, the construction walls and decorative scrim have come down from the Haunted Mansion, revealing the attraction’s refreshed exterior ahead of the first Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party of the year.

There’s still plenty of construction walls lining the old Rivers of America, and the standby line for The Haunted Mansion quickly backs up into Liberty Square, but the Mansion itself is looking better than ever.

While the overall appearance remains faithful to the classic gothic manor guests have known for decades, several noticeable changes give the iconic attraction a look that’s much closer to its original 1971 debut.

Here’s a quick comparison from late 2025 to today:

The Haunted Mansion has undergone several exterior refreshes since opening alongside Magic Kingdom more than five decades ago. The biggest noticeable change is the return of the cupola dome’s green finish, replacing the darker bronze tone from more recent years. Historic photos from the attraction’s early years show the dome originally featured a similar green color when Magic Kingdom opened on October 1, 1971.

The mansion’s brickwork has also been darkened, creating more contrast against the lighter stone trim surrounding the building. That combination of dark brick and brighter stone is another nod to the attraction’s earlier appearance, before years of repainting resulted in a more uniform color palette.

The landscaping has also received attention during the refurbishment. A stretch of fresh green grass is now across the hillside below the mansion, filled with grey stones and rows of new juniper shrubs that add more texture and greenery.

With Halloween decorations now filling Main Street, U.S.A. and the first Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party kicking off tomorrow, the timing couldn’t be better for one of Magic Kingdom’s most iconic attractions to show off its refreshed exterior.
