The time has come to say goodbye to Muppet*Vision 3D in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This attraction is located on Grand Avenue in the park.
I think this is the first attraction where I started noticing the small details that Disney puts into its rides. The key under the mat at the ticket window was my first experience with this.
The attraction has been in the park since 1991. At that time, the area was named Streets of America.
The Muppet*Vision 3D film was directed by Jim Henson (creator of the Muppets). It was his final project.
The preshow has lots of sight gags and a cute show while you wait for your turn to enter the theater. I think my favorite is the net full of Jell-O, referring to Annette Funicello. They also show some humorous movie posters. You take a pair of 3D glasses as you enter the theater.
The film takes you on a tour of Muppet Studios to show you their new breakthrough in 3D technology. Muppet favorite, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, shows us his 3D creation, Waldo. Waldo creates some crazy antics with the cast. You are treated to bubbles, smoke, projections, and lighting effects all in 3D. Miss Piggy entertains you with a song, and Kermit narrates what we are seeing. Statler and Waldorf, the grumpy old men, are up in the balcony. You will see many Muppet favorites like Fozzy Bear, and Sam Eagle.
In 2017, the outside of the attraction in Hollywood Studios received a new entrance. The name of the theater was changed to Grand Arts Theater. If you have ever visited this area, I am sure you have a picture of the Miss Piggy fountain outside.
It was announced in November 2024 that Muppet*Vision 3D would close and be replaced by a Monsters, Inc. area. The last day for Muppet*Vision 3D will be June 7, 2025.
I will miss this simple, entertaining, funny attraction in the park. When I first moved to Florida, I watched and enjoyed the show many times. I understand that change is a good thing, but I will miss the Muppets and the humor they provided.
In May 2025, Walt Disney World reported that they will be recording the show, and the audience will be Cast Members who work at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. They have not mentioned what they will be doing with the recording or if it is just for preservation purposes. Goodbye, old friend, I will miss this attraction.
