Magic Kingdom is the land of quick-service restaurants. Disney has gotten a lot better throughout the years about including vegetarian options on their menus. Knowing which places had the best vegetarian/vegan options was essential as I transitioned into being a vegetarian. For the most part, when I am at the parks, I dine at quick-service locations because they are budget-friendly and don’t require a lot of time from your day.
Let’s start with Casey’s Corner on Main Street, U.S.A. Before being a vegetarian, Casey’s was my favorite place to grab food and people watch. I thought that becoming a vegetarian meant losing the entire Casey’s experience, but that is not true. Casey’s is currently serving two plant-based options. The first option they have is a Plant-based Loaded Slaw Dog with a plant-based sausage topped with pickled slaw, barbecue vegan aioli, and roasted corn relish with your choice of fries or Cuties mandarins. You can get this Plant-based Loaded Slaw Dog for $11.99 at the time of writing this article. The other option they have is a Plant-based Dog that resembles your average hot dog. This Plant-based Dog comes in a potato bun served with fries or Cuties mandarins. Plant-based typically means that the option is also vegan friendly; be sure to ask the cast members to ensure it is a vegan item. If you’re vegetarian and miss hot dogs, this is the place to go.
Next up, Frontierland. If you enjoy tacos, rice bowls, or nachos, Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe is the place for you. When eating here, I have found it very easy to make modifications like asking if I could get the tacos with no meat or remove the meat from the salad. They have never given me an issue when modifying a dish. They do have a plant-based option on their menu that requires no modifications. The Veggie Rice Bowl comes with yellow rice, grilled pepper, onions, black beans, tomatoes, and salsa. This dish is pretty filling, much like the rest of their menu items, and it’s on the “healthier” side. If you like smaller portions, the kid’s menu has a veggie rice bowl.
Over by the Haunted Mansion, Columbia Harbour House waits for guests. Columbia Harbour house is heavy on seafood, so this is an excellent pick for our pescatarian friends. They have one item on the menu that is entirely plant-based. The Doom Burger is a plant-based crab cake sandwich with red onion and cabbage slaw. The burger is served with fries, of course. They used to have my favorite quick-service mac and cheese, but it seems it has left the menu. They also have salads at this location that can be served without chicken. I wouldn’t consider this one of the best options for a vegetarian meal, but at least they have one plant-based option to offer.
Pinocchio Village Haus surprised me a few months ago while mobile ordering because they have a vegan pizza, and I had no idea. They have a Plant-based “Cheese” Pizza made with dairy-free cheese. Pizza is one of the easiest things to make vegetarian. You can’t go wrong with a cheese pizza or a veggie pizza. Pinocchio’s has a super cheesy pizza called the Gourmet Cheese Flatbread, which is delicious and covered in cheese. They also have a Margherita Flatbread covered in cheese, tomatoes, and balsamic vinegar. You can’t have pizza without breadsticks that are vegetarian. Their Tomato Basil Soup is also a great option. In my opinion, this is the most accommodating location for vegetarians. It’s also great that they have an entirely plant-based pizza for our vegan friends.
Last but not least, well, maybe least, we have Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe. I find this the least accommodating location because it’s a burger place. The plant-based option they have is the Burger to the Moon. This burger is made with an Impossible burger topped with guacamole, tomato, and cabbage slaw served with fries. The other option is the Greek Salad.
These are the primary quick-service locations that offer plant-based/vegetarian items. I know some of the walk-up windows have plant-based options as well. The Friar’s Nook is a walk-up window that I know has a plant-based bratwurst, and they have a creamy macaroni and cheese, too. Westward Ho in Frontierland is a food cart that has Jalapeño Poppers, which are vegetarian but not vegan. Most quick services tend to be accommodating when asking for something without meat to make it vegetarian. Out of all the locations I have listed, I think Pinocchio’s Village Haus has the most vegetarian options without making modifications.
