The Magic of a Disney Trip Countdown

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a planner. I like to write things out. I have tasks mapped out in my planner, and I like to cross off the tasks as I accomplish them. I also like to occasionally add motivational stickers and washi tape and other things to my planner to help bring in just a bit of joy as I set out to get things done.

The same thing has applied to my Disney trip planning over the years. I like to try to have things organized in order to not lose my ever loving mind at the last minute, and also in an attempt to keep myself motivated in the midst of the everyday tasks that must be done. Eyes on the prize, right?

One of the things that has both kept me motivated and has brought a little magic into my world is keeping a Disney trip countdown. Whether it’s an app on my phone or a scribble on a chalkboard, a countdown clock is a joy to behold.

Back in the day, I would constantly keep a “days until” tally on the chalkboard behind my desk in my office. Disney fans are always in the process of counting down to a trip or planning the next one, right? Even if my next time sailing on Disney Cruise Line or stepping foot onto Main Street, U.S.A. was triple digits away, my magical (and tropical, thanks to added artwork from my friend) countdown kept me sane during the gray Maryland winter days.

For my birthday one year, my sister made me a Disney trip countdown magnet board. She bought a metal sign at an arts and crafts store, designed and printed Mickey head number cards, cut them out, and laminated them.

She attached an envelope to the back of the magnet board for holding the numbers that aren’t currently being used, and stuck a few extra magnets on the board so that I can use them to display the current number of days until my next trip. I’ve displayed that magnetic board in my offices ever since.

For a long time now, the number that I’ve had displayed on that board has been 0. I live in Central Florida now, so, for the most part, I can go to Walt Disney World anytime I’d like. Except now.

So, yesterday morning, I decided to change the numbers on the board. It was time to start a new countdown. To help keep my eyes on the prize, and help motivate me during this tough moment. I chose June 1st, 2020 as the goal as that’s the date that WDW resort stays, at least for now, begin again. I know that something could change at any time, but for now, June 1st it is.

What about you? Do you use a countdown calendar or app? What works best for you? And, of course, a big question needs to be asked: how many days until your next Disney trip? Please let me know in the comments section below.

Mine, for now, is 49.

Deni loves all things Disney, and, in 2013, moved to the Magic from Maryland. Walt Disney World is her happy place, and she loves getting to share it with others. Deni and her husband of almost 26 years have 2 grown children. Her favorite WDW snack? A Mickey Bar, of course. Is there any other?!
