Disney fans have been buzzing about a "surprise announcement" that was set to come during Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve Celebration on the ABC Network. It was revealed last week that the 2012 campaign for Disney Parks & Resorts will be "One More Disney Day", so fans had all sorts of ideas about what the announcement might be. Ideas ranged from keeping the parks open overnight on Leap Day to getting an extra day free on your park tickets. The official announcement was released on the new
website at 11:00 pm EST.
It appears that fans were right - on Leap Day 2012,
Disneyland Park and
Magic Kingdom Park will stay open for 24 hours straight, beginning at 6:00 am on February 29. Pending any further details, this announcement seems somewhat surprising, considering the Disney company is basing an entire year's celebration on one day. This celebration is rather limiting, in the fact that not everyone will be able to take advantage of the extra hours.
There were a few more additions, such as the giveaway of a vacation package each day from January 1 to February 29. A new
discount was also announced; book a package with 3 or more nights at
Disneyland or
Walt Disney World between February 26 - March 10 and get one night free. This isn't really a new offer; this is one that Disney has used several times before.
It will be interesting to follow the thoughts of online Disney fan communities as word spreads about the "surprise announcement." To join the discussion on the DISboards,
