A Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) executive who was in upper leadership with Disneyland's Cars Land
project has been moved to Florida, adding even more fuel to the rumor
that Cars Land may be coming to Walt Disney World
. Kathy Mangum, a Co-Creative executive of Cars Land and a vice president at WDI, is now Executive Producer, overseeing all attraction and resort design at Walt Disney World.
We heard a rumor last week that Disney may capitalize on the success of Cars Land and bring the project to Disney's Hollywood Studios
, possibly as a way to draw Florida theme park fans away from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
at Universal Studios
. Mangum's move is certainly an interesting one and we will continue watching to see how this plays out.
Disney isn't ready to announce anything just yet, as evidenced by the statement given by WDI spokesman Diego Parras. He says Mangum's move is a natural progression for her now that Cars Land is complete and that her reassignment is not tied to any new projects. "Disney World is our biggest portfolio and, with everything that we have going on, we just simply need more resources."
Disneyland has been seeing record attendance numbers due to the popularity of Cars Land at their Disney California Adventure
park. The park previously only accounted for 25 percent of the attendance at the Disneyland Resort, but is now drawing 50 percent of the crowds.
