The film "Fantasia" will be the theme of
Walt Disney World's 2012 International Flower & Garden Festival. The
Epcot event will be held March 7 - May 20 and will feature a new Sorcerer Mickey centerpiece from the film. According to the
Orlando Sentinel, the 8-foot Mickey Mouse topiary will be "atop a 12-foot floral mountain cliff. Below will be topiaries of dancing broomsticks, buckets, hippos, elephants and alligators. Disney plant specialist Heather Will-Browne says to look for "blackish-purple Ajuga" on the cliff, along with pink geraniums, blue delphiniums, white poppies, petunias, pansies and poppies to carry out the "Fantasia" theme." The
Italy and
Norway pavilions will have updates of brightly colored flowers and fresh-smelling herbs.
Some old favorites will be returning, but to new locations. The Festival this past summer featured Lightning McQueen and Mater topiaries, as "Cars 2" was being released in theaters. This year they will be stationed in the
Japan pavilion. The "Toy Story 3" characters Buzz Lightyear, Woody and Lotso will be located in
Future World outside the Festival Center. The event will once again be sponsored by HGTV, whose designers will be returning for live demonstrations.
