Walt Disney Pictures has been filming scenes this week for their upcoming film Tomorrowland around Florida, including Walt Disney World. Tuesday, November 12, the production was in New Smyrna Beach and shut down part of U.S. Highway 1 for about 10 hours. Scenes were also shot Tuesday in Altamonte Springs. On Monday, November 11, the Carousel of Progress attraction in the Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland was shut down for the day due to filming. Not much is known about the film's plot, though it is rumored to take place in an "alternate reality" similar to the theme park's version of the future.

The film is scheduled to come out in theaters in May 2015 and of the science fiction fantasy genre. George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, and Britt Robertson will star. A previously released plot summary says: "Bound by a shared destiny, a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor jaded by disillusionment embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory as 'Tomorrowland.'"
