Hosts of Disney program leaving
by Leah ZanollaJul 22, 2008
With Disney's decision to take "At the Movies with Ebert and Roeper" in a "new direction", the two co-hosts are opting out.
Disney has aired the popular movie review program since 1986. At the time it was hosted by Gene Siskel and Robert Ebert. Following Siskel's death in 1999, Richard Roeper was hired and has been hosting since.
For the past two years, Ebert has been battling health problems and guest co-hosts have taken his place.
With his contract set to expire, Roeper was offered an extension. He stated "I opted to wait. Much transpired after that behind the scenes, but an agreement was never reached, and we are all moving on." Roeper is expected to announce his role in a new movie review program in the near future.
Disney has declined to comment. Roeper said he wishes them "the best of luck with their new show, whatever form it may take."
