Mark Hamill open to reprising role as Luke Skywalker

Last week, we discussed the possibility of Harrison Ford returning to play Han Solo in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, though Lucasfilm has yet to confirm this rumor. In the same article, we questioned whether or not Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) would return. Entertainment Weekly has spoken with Mark Hamill and confirmed "that discussions about possible future appearances of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia are indeed taking place but stressed that no contracts have been signed."

Hamill said he was approached by George Lucas inquiring if he was even interested in playing the part, and that if not, he would be written out, not replaced by another actor. Hamill has no inside knowledge about the film's storyline, but he is assuming the movies would revolve around the children of the original characters. He also said he would love to have as many of the original cast as possible return for the new films. As the script is not yet finished, it hasn't been made clear if the characters would come back as the stars of the film, or just as supporting cast.

His other wish for the series is to keep the CGI to a minimum. "I said to George that I wanted to go back to the way it was, in the sense that ours was much more carefree and lighthearted and humorous - in my opinion, anyway. I hope they find the right balance of CGI with practical effects. I love props, I love models, miniatures, matte paintings - I'm sort of old school. I think if you go too far in the direction of CGI it winds up looking like just a giant video game, and that's unfortunate. If they listen to me at all, it'll be, 'Lighten up and go retro with the way it looks.'"
