WFTV.com is reporting that guests were trapped inside the new Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey attraction at Universal's Islands of Adventure Friday night. Problems with the roller coaster resulted in firefighters being dispatched to the scene. According to WFTV.com, riders were upside down when the ride stopped.
Another Orlando news outlet, WESH.com, has released more details of the incident. According to Orlando Fire Department, the ride got stuck at 8:15 pm. It is not known if anyone required medical attention at this time. 132 guests were on the ride and at 9:15 pm, all but five cars had been evacuated. Guests used the attractions catwalks and ladders to evacuate the ride.
Update: A glitch in the ride caused it to stop around 8:00 pm. This safety feature is built in to the attraction, causing the system to stop if it detects any sort of problem. The man who called 911 thought that he was stuck upside down, but he was merely in an awkward position in the ride. Universal spokesperson Tom Schroder said all the cars were full, but that no guests were injured. Universal employees finished the evacuation and firefighters left around 9:50.
