Universal Orlando announced on Thursday that a themed area will open this summer based on the popular television show "The Simpsons." The area, which is being called "Springfield" after the town featured in the show, replaces the former "Back to the Future" attraction that closed in 2007. "Springfield" will be located alongside "The Simpsons" attraction and feature restaurants and shops based on the show.

Two of the biggest additions to the area will be Krusty Burger and Moe's Tavern, which is going to serve "Duff Beer," the well-known beer featured in the show. Other restaurants and shops added will be Lard Lad's Donuts, The Frying Dutchman, Luigi's Pizza, The Android's Dungeon & Baseball Card Shop, and Duff Gardens.

Along with restaurants and shops, Universal is also adding a new attraction called "Kang & Kodos' Twirl 'n' Hurl" which will be an outdoor spinner type ride.

Although there has been no specific opening date announced, Universal says the complete area will open sometime this summer.
