The Disneyland Resort has filed a permit with the City of Anaheim to remove one of the last remnants of its Skyway attraction that closed in 1994.
The 5,100 square-foot Skyway Chalet station, which has been sitting in the far corner of Fantasyland since the closure, will be removed as part of the new Star Wars-themed land expansion of Disneyland Park.
The Skyway opened in 1956 and would transport guests between Tomorrowland and Fantasyland, 40 feet above the Park. Officially, the ride was closed due to lack of popularity and high labor costs, but stories of guests dropping items from the the attraction or otherwise behaving inappropriately persist.
The cost to remove the Chalet is estimated to be $67,000.
