It’s time to set your clocks to Pooh time, as we look at another Disney theme park snack. We’re back on the hunt for a little smackerel of something, this time at Disneyland park!

Rancho del Zocalo is one of my favorite stops in Frontierland for this snack hack I’m about to feature, but once I discovered the Churro Cream Puff currently available from their dessert counter… I knew I had to share the yumminess with you, in hopes you’re planning a Disneyland trip soon!

Back when I was vegetarian a few years ago, my go-to Disneyland snack was a side of refried beans and crispy chips with a hint of lemon from Rancho del Zocalo. I still order this combo any time I’m on the west coast, but there were a few more delicious additions during my last visit: an esquite bowl, and Mickey-shaped churro cream puff. (Say less, am I right?!)

Esquite is made with mayonnaise, lime juice, cotiija cheese, chili, chopped jalapeño, cilantro, and fresh herbs. One thing about Disneyland food vs. WDW: they’re not afraid of SPICY dishes. This esquite took us all by surprise at our Fantasmic Dining Package dinner. It was pleasantly warm, creamy, and had an unexpected kick. If you like spicy foods, don’t pass this one up. Upon ordering, the Cast Member made sure I was okay with the spicy version, since a non-spicy version is also available (just make your request upon ordering at the counter!).

The refried beans are nothing too special, just a mild side of the traditional Mexican mashed and fried beans. However, the side only costs $3, plus the price of chips. To spice things up, I decided to mix the refried beans and esquite together for a hearty, spicy dip… and I will absolutely be doing this again. Although, next time, I may try to add in a side of chicken or fish for some additional protein. I’m rating this snack a 4.5 out of 5 on the rumbly in my tumbly scale!

I know what you’re really here for: dessert. The Mickey-shaped churro cream puff available here is just as tasty as it looks and sounds:

The crisp craquelin on top gave it the perfect crunchy churro texture, while the pastry’s inside was soft and airy. The cream filling was lightly-sweetened with notes of cinnamon, and was piped throughout the “face” AND “ear” portions of the puff. The bottom of the puff had white chocolate caps where the pastry had been filled. You may gawk at the price below, but trust me, it’s worth it. Guess what? I’m rating this a 5 out of 5 on the rumbly in my tumbly scale. It’s delicious. I can’t wait to be back. No further notes.

My “fancy”, filling Frontierland snack cost me $24, with the majority of that going towards the Mickey-shaped cinnamon treat.
- Esquite bowl: $6.49
- Side of refried beans: $2.79
- Lemon corn chips: $4.79
- Churro cream puff: $8.29
I felt like this was a valuable mid-day break, especially considering you can’t find these food offerings anywhere else at Disneyland Resort.
Until next time, be grateful for your plateful!
