Walt Disney Imagineering’s BDX Droids are officially hitting the streets of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios this summer, bringing cutting-edge charm and interactive magic to the park beginning today (Wednesday) and going through August 30th.
Guests can spot them Tuesdays through Saturdays at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 12:30 pm, 3:00 pm, 4:00 pm, 5:00 pm, and 6:00 pm.

These free-roaming robotic characters – first unveiled publicly at SXSW and later seen in limited test appearances – have graduated from prototype status to on-stage stars. Short for “Bipedal Dynamic Experiment,” the BDX Droids were developed by Imagineering’s Project Kiwi team and are now making appearances throughout the park during the summer season.

Standing just over three feet tall, the BDX Droids are highly expressive and built for spontaneous interaction. They walk on two legs, respond to guests, recover from stumbles, and convey emotions with remarkable believability. Showcased initially as a young, alien-like character with Groot-esque energy, the droids are designed to adapt to various personalities and stories. At Hollywood Studios, guests may find them wandering near Galaxy’s Edge or making special pop-up appearances in other themed areas.
What makes these droids stand out is their ability to engage emotionally. Rather than being tied to static displays or controlled environments, they’re built for the open world of the parks, reacting to guests in real time and adding a new layer of living character to the storytelling landscape.

Guests are encouraged to keep their eyes peeled and phones ready. You never know when a curious little droid might stroll around the corner, wave hello, or stop to show off a few animated moves.
With their growing presence in the parks, BDX Droids represent the next leap forward in immersive entertainment, where innovation, technology, and storytelling all walk hand-in-hand… quite literally.
