It might sound a little dramatic to say the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor “isn’t good,” because let’s be honest, even average ice cream is still ice cream. But when we’re talking about the flagship ice cream location in all of Walt Disney World, expectations should be a little higher. Instead, what we get is a surprisingly underwhelming experience built around Edy’s, a brand of ice cream you can find at most grocery stores. It’s not that Edy’s is bad. It’s fine. But “fine” shouldn’t cut it on Main Street, U.S.A.
For a location with such prime real estate, right at the end of Main Street with a picture-perfect view of Cinderella Castle, it’s disappointing that Disney doesn’t do more to make it special. Imagine if this were a true creamery with small-batch, freshly made ice cream and original flavors that you could only get at Walt Disney World. It would transform the experience into something people talked about long after their trip. It would be another “must-do” tradition for returning families. Right now, the offerings feel generic and uninspired, with nothing to distinguish them from what you’d find at a supermarket ice cream case.

The current flavor selection includes Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Mint Chocolate Chip, Cookies ’n Cream, and No Sugar Added Raspberry Sorbet. That’s it. That’s the entire list. Sure, you can get toppings and make it into a sundae, or have it served in a waffle cone, or a milkshake, but this is a weaker lineup than most elementary school ice cream socials. There’s no innovation, no house-made magic, just the basics. And those basics are available at pretty much every convenience store in the country.
What’s especially frustrating is that the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor feels like it should be something extraordinary. The exterior is charming. The interior gives that quaint, vintage ice cream shop vibe. And the smell, thanks to Disney’s “Smellitizers” pumping out that delicious waffle cone aroma, is doing some serious heavy lifting. That scent creates the illusion that something magical awaits inside, but the truth is, the product doesn’t match the promise. The smell is the best part.
In a park that prides itself on attention to detail, immersive environments, and unique guest experiences, this location feels like a missed opportunity. People want reasons to return. They want exclusive memories and special treats they can only get on Disney property. The Plaza Ice Cream Parlor could and should be that place. But until Disney reimagines it with better quality ice cream, unique offerings, and a true sense of exclusivity, it’ll remain a location that smells better than it tastes.
