Behind the Scenes at Disney’s ‘Festival of the Lion King’

Behind-the-Scenes Sunday is here! On the weekends, in between our busy trip-planning sessions and Disney Parks recipe cooking, we like to enjoy a little downtime, learning more about what happens behind the curtain at Disney. From Broadway stage shows, to movies, attraction details, to Cotino construction updates, we like to have our finger on the pulse of everything Disney!

Disney Parks has launched a new online series called Backstage Pass Holder, presumably bringing fans behind the scenes in the Disney Parks to reveal how some of the magic we love and adore comes alive. We are featuring the debut episode for this week’s deep dive, taking a closer look at the stories behind the Festival of the Lion King attraction in Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park at Walt Disney World.

Get fired up! In our first episode of Backstage Passholder, we are heading to the Festival of the Lion King at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. Here you can find fire knife dancers like Alema. Alema’s dad was one of the show’s original performers and the legacy continues through Alema and his children. Follow along for more Backstage Passholder videos.

I love knowing more about the individuals behind these performances. As an audience, we are often in awe of the entire production, though the stories that each creative performer or contributor brings to the project can be equally fascinating. I hope you enjoyed this first episode of Disney’s new series. We can’t wait for the follow-up second episode!

Festival of the Lion King is performed in the Harambe Theater, located in the Africa section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Situated near Tusker House Restaurant, the atmospheric theater-in-the-round delivers a vibrant 30-minute Broadway-style revue featuring Simba, Timon, Pumbaa, fire dancers, acrobats, and audience participation, bringing the Pride Lands to life.
