I love a Disney celebration as much as, no, scratch that, way more than the next person. While some fans might pick and choose the events they feel personally connected to, I seem to have a soulful affinity with anything Disney chooses to celebrate. Maybe I am just in love with celebrating life more than anything, but as a side note, any excuse to turn a regular day into a Disney day is one I will never turn away from. Even so, I have been known to question things from time to time, like the ever-growing length of Disney’s dedication to Halloween. Most of the time, I can get on board with the idea that a longer season gives more fans the chance to enjoy the experience. However, and yes, friends, there is a however, there are some celebrations that leave me wondering how long is too long.
Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary is still fresh in my mind. Stretching across 18 months between 2021 and early 2023, it was lovely to see elements roll out gradually, but it also made things feel a little awkward. Some celebratory touches seemed to vanish and reappear around Halloween and the holidays as the park worked to balance seasonal overlays with anniversary offerings. Now Disneyland is moving through its 70th Anniversary celebration, and that familiar awkwardness is creeping in again as the park shifts through its seasonal calendar.
Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary event runs from May 2025 through the summer of 2026, sitting at almost a full year of pink and purple décor, special outfits for characters, and charming touches along Main Street, U.S.A. It all sounds wonderful, but so much of that year is consumed by Halloween Time and the holiday season, both of which rightfully take center stage while the anniversary quietly steps to the side. With nearly half of the celebration going on hiatus during the most festive months of the year, it raises the question of whether a shorter window might create a more consistent and meaningful experience. Even the merchandise, while still beautifully displayed, feels like it is taking a back seat to the season of the moment.
What do you think? Does the pixie dust lose a little sparkle when an anniversary celebration stretches on for too long? Or are you firmly on team the more the merrier when it comes to adding a little extra magic to your Disney vacation?
