Trust Your Gut on Your Disney Vacation

There are about a million reviews for everything at the Disney Parks. Every ride, every restaurant, every snack cart has been ranked, debated, praised, or completely torn apart online. If you spend even a few minutes scrolling, you can find a strong opinion about pretty much anything.

And sure, sometimes there’s a general consensus. Some things are widely loved. Some things are widely criticized. But the truth is, so much of a Disney trip comes down to personal preference.

You might hate a certain restaurant that everyone else raves about. You might adore a ride that the internet has declared “skippable.” That’s normal. Disney isn’t one size fits all, and it shouldn’t be.

Still, it’s easy to let reviews talk you out of trying something new. Maybe you’ve skipped a show because someone called it boring. Maybe you avoided a restaurant because it got labeled “mid.” Maybe you walked right past a ride because social media told you it wasn’t worth your time.

I think that’s a mistake. It took me a while to admit this out loud, but here it goes. I don’t think Journey Into Imagination with Figment is that bad. There, I said it.

Is it my favorite ride at EPCOT? No. Is it a masterpiece of modern Imagineering? Definitely not. But do I still enjoy it? Absolutely. It’s weird, colorful, nostalgic, and usually has a five to ten-minute wait. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need in the middle of a busy park day.

If you read the internet, though, you’d think it was completely unrideable. The way people talk about it, you’d assume it personally offended them. And if I posted this opinion on X or Facebook, I’m pretty sure I’d get roasted in the comments within minutes.

But honestly, who cares?

If my family and I are wandering around EPCOT looking for something to do next, hopping on Figment is a perfectly fun choice. Not everything has to be a headliner attraction or a must-do experience. Sometimes it’s just about enjoying the moment and not overthinking it.

That’s my point.

Reviews and vlogs can be helpful. They’re great for getting a sense of what to expect or narrowing down options when you’re planning. But they should be a guide, not a rulebook. They shouldn’t handcuff you or make you feel silly for liking something that isn’t trendy.

Lately, it feels like we’ve become a little too dependent on influencers telling us what we’re supposed to love. We watch a video, see a ranking list, and suddenly we’ve decided how we feel about something we haven’t even tried yet.

Somewhere along the way, we stopped trusting our own instincts.

If something looks interesting to you, try it. If a restaurant menu sounds good, book it. If a ride looks fun or quirky or nostalgic, get in line. Even if the reviews aren’t glowing. Even if someone online called it a waste of time. So like what you like. Skip what you want to skip. Build a Disney day that feels fun to you, not one that checks off boxes from someone else’s top ten list. Because at the end of the day, it’s your vacation, not the internet’s.
