Permits recently filed by Disney to the South Florida Water Management District indicate that changes could be coming to Epcot at Walt Disney World. According to the Orlando Sentinel, the permit looks to allow Disney to “build and operate a new stormwater management system on the northeast side of the theme park.” This permit is said to expire in June 2022.
A staff report stated that the proposal will allow Disney to make “a more contiguous area for possible future changes to parking capacity and back of house areas” by modifying a current canal. Additionally, the permit said that Disney wants to construct two dry retention areas in a location “where future construction is planned.”
Disney parks chairman Bob Chapek stated at a D23 event in November 2016 that Epcot would soon have “a major transformation” in order to make the theme park, “more Disney, timeless, relevant, and family-friendly.”
