As most of you already know, the Disneyland Resort is smack dab in the middle of Anaheim, which means that there are local stores, eateries, and lodging just outside the official magic of Disneyland. Many of these are within walking distance, and some are just as close…if not closer…than some of the on-property options. Keep this in mind when planning a trip to the Disneyland area, especially when it comes to where you choose to stay.
With their Good Neighbor Hotel program, Disney has partnered with nearly 60 area hotels that can be included with your tickets as part of a Disneyland Resort Vacation Package.
I’ve stayed at many of these over the years, but now that I’m back sharing my trips with you here at The DIS, I’m going to be revisiting several of my favorites and checking out some of the many new options.
Recently, I had the opportunity to stay at the Castle Inn & Suites during my first trip back to the Disneyland Resort in nearly 2 years. Castle Inn is classified as a Moderate with the Good Neighbor Hotel program and features 199 rooms and suites.
I arrived around 9pm on a Friday evening and was happy to find that there was plenty of parking. Some of the smaller properties in the area don’t have nearly enough parking for their guests, but here I was able to park two spots down from the elevators that led to my room. They were even nice enough to let me leave my car at the hotel for a few hours later after I checked out at the end of the weekend.
I was on the 4th floor in a room featuring two queen-sized beds, which would be perfect for a small family. The hotel also features larger rooms and suites that will hold up to 6 guests.
While this is definitely not a new hotel, it seems to be well-maintained. The room was clean and free of any stains or damage. I’m always afraid I’ll see some light mold or water damage in the bathrooms at properties of this level, but there was none of that here.
I was also impressed to see that the housekeeping staff provided a little extra magic with tissue fans and towel swans. It leads me to believe that someone in the management team cares about the guests.
As I said, the room featured two beds along with a desk, entertainment center, wardrobe closet, and a small dining table. The entertainment center included storage space, plus a microwave and small refrigerator. The beds were firm, but comfortable, and featured crisp white linens and four pillows each.
The toilet and shower were in a separate room from the sink, allowing two (or more) people to get ready for their day at Disneyland at the same time. The sink area had some basic bars of soap, while the shower had dispensers with conditioning shampoo and hand & body wash.
The location of Castle Inn is perfect, just a 15 minute walk to the entrance of the Disneyland Resort (and I don’t walk fast). While there are no food or shopping options on the property, there is a build-your-own pizza restaurant called Pizza Press at the hotel next door, plus a 7-Eleven across the street and a Walgreens, CVS, Starbucks and more just beyond that.
All in all, I had a comfortable stay at the Castle Inn & Suites and wouldn’t mind staying there again…after I check out all of the other 60 Good Neighbor Hotels in the area.
Here is some sample pricing at the Castle Inn and Suites for a visit in early December:

Do you have a favorite off-property hotel or one that you think I should check out next?
