Our amazing stay at the Pixar Place Hotel led us to brunch at the newest Great Maple location, right inside the lobby! Ryno and I had both heard mixed reviews of Great Maple but were pleasantly surprised by everything we tried and really enjoyed our entire experience. Read our full review below so you, too, can have a great brunch next time you’re at the Disneyland Resort!
The centerpiece of the restaurant is a large bar with tufted bar stools and gold accents where you can order from the full menu or just grab an afternoon drink. The modern atmosphere extends itself to the open outdoor seating area, complete with multiple firepits.
Unlike the rest of the Pixar Place Hotel, the theming inside Great Maple is subtle Pixar. However, there are these great portraits throughout of your favorite characters from The Incredibles, Toy Story, and Ratatouille.
Great Maple offers an “all-day menu,” meaning you can order brunch favorites, sandwiches, salads, pasta, etc., from open to close. We happened to visit for a late breakfast but ordered what jumped out to us the most!
I started my day with the Cinnamon Toast Double Shot Latte for $7. The flavor tasted just like Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal and it was the perfect espresso to milk ratio.
We of course, also had to try some of the signature cocktails including the Maple Bacon Old Fashioned for $18. Ryno enjoyed this fun version of an old fashioned made with bourbon, maple syrup, bitters, and smoked bacon and would definitely get it again!
I went with the Fresh Cucumber Gimlet made with gin, lime, simple syrup, and cucumber for $18. This drink and the Tropical Merm-ade are the two unique cocktails to this Great Maple location. This gimlet was exceptionally refreshing and perfect for summer.
We shared the Portobello Mushroom Fries for $21 as our appetizer. These Portobello mushrooms are fried and topped with parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes and served with basil pesto aioli. We both agreed that they were perfectly fried and could be easily shared with multiple people. Multiple servers told us how great these are, and they were absolutely right!
For entrees, Ryno chose Great Maple’s signature Chicken and Donuts for $27. Served with two buttermilk fried chicken thighs and two large maple bacon donuts; this was a super filling meal. The donuts alone were incredible and we agreed the fried chicken was both tender and flavorful. This would be a great entrée to split and one I will be getting on my next visit! Even if you don’t get this as your entrée, be sure to order the donuts for dessert because they were heavenly!
I opted for the Cajun Shrimp Biscuit Benedict made with Cajun butter shrimp, arugula, poached eggs, and Cajun hollandaise on a white cheddar biscuit served with sour cream and onion scalloped potatoes for $27. This was yet again a huge serving! The biscuit was both cheesy and fluffy and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. Also, the scalloped potatoes have to be some of the best I’ve ever had! I only wish that there had been more Cajun seasoning to get it a little more spice.
We also got to sample the truffle fries, which you can add as an up-charge side. These were awesome fries with plenty of truffle oil!
We were so incredibly full at this point but couldn’t miss the chance to try the Powdered Sugar Beignets served with house-made lemon curd for $17. This is a must-have dessert! The lemon curd was the perfect addition and the beignets were served warm. They were a little more doughy than traditional beignets but still so very delicious.
For my scores, I gave the ambiance a 6 for the indoor/ outdoor feel and the incredible Pixar portraits, the food presentation a 9, the quality of taste a 9, the service a 7, and the cost a 7 since the meals are expensive but the portions are easily shareable. My total rating was a 3.8 out of 5 and I will definitely be back again for another great meal!
Ryno scored the ambiance a 9 because he enjoyed the décor and relaxed vibe, the presentation a 9 for its great plating and place settings, the quality of taste a 9, the service a 9, and the cost a 7. Ryno pointed out this is likely his highest dining review score of 4.3 out of 5.
We loved everything about our brunch at Great Maple and look forward to our next opportunity to try even more of the menu! Watch our full review here, and let us know in the comments what your favorite menu items are!
