We’ve spent a few days in Disneyland recently, and of all the attractions we enjoyed, there was one in particular that stood out to me as different. Admittedly, I am getting older here as I finish up my 30s, so this complaint could be me finding the joys of aging finally hitting my Disney life. However, I am going to run it past you nonetheless. We were boarding the Star Tours attraction in Tomorrowland, and excitedly, I was looking forward to one of the new adventures that was announced last month. What I didn’t expect was for it to send me into a world of pain I didn’t know there could be. The ride is basically the way you would remember it, soaring through different scenarios while the ride vehicle jerks you in every direction. Though one of the new scenarios included a new movement that I had never come across before. A tilt forward, followed by a sudden jerk backward, occurred, like an amplified version of the moment when you enter lightspeed. It was like an evil bunnyhop of whiplash, and my back was not at all happy about it.
Now, I am no stranger to jerky rides; it’s one of the reasons why I love things like Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree in Disney California Adventure, but this was next-level uncomfortable. Everyone in the ride over 25 made an ugh! noise when it happened. As soon as the movement threw me back, amongst the adult noises that came from around the room, my back cracked in two places. Not the mildly enjoyable relief crack that you can sometimes feel; no, this was the sound you hear when visiting a chiropractor right before someone says oops! It was very painful. I clutched my back for the next few hours, wondering if I was now the sort of person who needed to heed the warnings for people with back injuries, before deciding that no, I don’t think this one is me; I think it is the ride.
I’m wondering if anyone out there has tried the new Star Tours adventures and had a similar experience. Did you make that noise as you were violently thrown back in your seat?
