I don’t know about you, but I love all the details in the Walt Disney World theme parks. Some are obvious, others are subtle and then there are things that never happened but play a part in the history of the parks.
Today, I would like to share some trivia about EPCOT. Did you know that EPCOT has gone by four different names? EPCOT CENTER, EPCOT ’94, EPCOT ’95, EPCOT. Do you remember the hand on the ball for the year 2000?
Have you ever enjoyed a bratwurst at Sommerfest in Germany and wondered what was behind the wall? Originally, there was a boat ride attraction planned, but they couldn’t get a corporate sponsor.
I love Spaceship Earth. The attraction inside is great and has a lot of details, but I always wondered how many panels made up the outside skin of the attraction. There are 11,324 triangle sections on the “ball.” When the light show first premiered, I wondered how many lights they had to install; there are approximately 2,000 individual color-changing LED lights and over 60 miles of cable. If you haven’t stopped to experience the show, take some time to enjoy it.
Have you noticed that grass grows on the roof of the Norway pavilion? I first noticed it during an Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival, and my favorite flower also grows there.
If you have ever enjoyed The American Adventure show at the American pavilion, did you think the building only had three stories? This illusion was created to make the building appear smaller. It actually has 5 stories. They needed the space for the different sets that slide in and out underneath the auditorium.
There are so many details in the theme parks. You can discover something new to you every time you visit. Do you have a favorite detail in EPCOT? Share it with us. See you in the parks!
