Each year, Thanksgiving in Orlando has a little extra magic, and not the kind that needs a Lightning Lane. Walt Disney World Resort is stepping up again for those in need, cooking and distributing 1,000 full Thanksgiving meals to families and individuals in Central Florida through a partnership with Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida and Harbor House of Central Florida.
It is a massive undertaking. Disney chefs and Cast Members gathered on November 25th with carts full of ingredients, then spent roughly 30 hours prepping and packaging a classic holiday spread: roasted turkey (about 400 pounds), mashed potatoes, green beans, gravy, and cranberry sauce. Volunteers from the Disney VoluntEARS crew will hand out the meals on Thanksgiving Day.
This kind of generosity is not new for Disney. The tradition goes back more than 25 years and has resulted in over 25,000 Thanksgiving meals served to people experiencing homelessness or hardship in Central Florida. In past years, the effort also included holiday-season food donations across the country, from meal kits to grocery boxes to large-scale food drives through Disney’s network of resorts and partnerships.
What feels truly inspiring is the spirit behind it. Instead of simply putting on happy faces behind the scenes, Disney uses its kitchens and its people to make a real difference, bringing warmth, dignity, and comfort to families who might otherwise struggle this holiday. For everyone reading today, whether you are feasting with loved ones or reflecting with a quiet heart, it is a lovely reminder that giving thanks can also mean giving back in the smallest of ways.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Wherever you are, and however you celebrate, I hope your week is filled with love and kindness. Be safe, and if you are stuck for a family activity, why not start a round table discussion about your next trip to the Disney Parks, where you can create precious memories, knowing that a portion of that money is always focused on giving back to the community.
