Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is returning to the screen, exactly 100 years after the character made his theatrical debut!
During the 2026 Entertainment Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney shared a first look at Oswald, a new three-part miniseries coming to Disney+ in February 2027. Written and produced by Jon Favreau, the project will combine live-action with traditional animation, putting an animated Oswald alongside live-action characters.
The mini series’ logo states ‘Oswald’ in vintage blue lettering:
Favreau is no stranger to Disney, having directed The Jungle Book, The Lion King, and The Mandalorian & Grogu, while also creating and producing several Star Wars projects.
Oswald Cast
The live-action cast includes Ravi Cabot-Conyers (Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Encanto), Mykal-Michelle Harris (Raven’s Home, Mixed-ish), and Ryder Allen (The Penguin, Palmer).
Amy Sedaris has also joined the series as Taylor’s mother, while Kathryn Hahn and Steve Martin are also involved in the project after being spotted filming with Favreau at Disneyland Park last year.
100 Years of Oswald
The February 2027 release comes during an important anniversary year for Disney history. Oswald made his theatrical debut in Trolley Troubles on September 5, 1927, with Walt Disney and his team producing 26 Oswald cartoons during 1927 and 1928.
After losing control of the character to Universal, Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks went on to create Mickey Mouse. Disney eventually regained the rights to Oswald in 2006 through an agreement with NBCUniversal. Oswald has since returned through merchandise, Disney Parks appearances, the Epic Mickey games, and a new hand-drawn Walt Disney Animation Studios short released as part of Disney100.
Now, 100 years after his original debut, the lucky rabbit is getting another major moment in the spotlight. Oswald arrives on Disney+ in February 2027.
