FL Governor Launches Investigation of Reedy Creek Improvement District Prior to Government Takeover

In a letter to the Chief Inspector General Monday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis formally requested a complete review and inspection of the actions of the Board of Supervisors that were in place while Disney was still in charge of the Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID).

Back in February, DeSantis signed House Bill 9B to replace the Disney-controlled RCID with the new Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) and hand-selected five new members to oversee the new district.

Last week, the new board discovered that a “Developer Agreement” was implemented the day before the Florida House voted on the new district.

Disney responded to the discovery by stating, “All agreements signed between Disney and the district were appropriate and were discussed and approved in open, noticed public forums in compliance with Florida’s Government in the Sunshine law.”
