In April 2015, The Walt Disney Company purchased the Carousel Inn & Suites on 1530 S. Harbor Boulevard in Anaheim, California. The 131-room hotel bought by Disney for $32 million, under the limited-liability corporation, Carousel Holdings EAT. At the time, Disneyland spokeswoman Suzi Brown said that Disney had no long-term plans for the property, but many assumed that the hotel would eventually be demolished.
The hotel closed in October 2016, and at the time it was believed the land would be used as part of the Eastern Gateway Expansion. This expansion project would use the Carousel Inn & Suites land as a bridge to a new transportation hub and parking structure. Since then, Disney set aside these plans and instead moved forward with the plans for a new parking structure next to the existing Mickey & Friends parking garage.
Recently on May 17, 2018, permits were issued by the city of Anaheim to demolish the hotel. The long and thin property sits across Harbor Boulevard from the Disneyland Resort’s entrance and bus loop, so it is clear why this is a prime piece of real estate, but now that it won’t be used for the Eastern Gateway Expansion project the purpose for Disney now seems unclear.
