It has been announced today that Taika Waititi, who won an Oscar for the screenplay for Jojo Rabbit, will co-write and direct a new Star Wars film. The film will be released in theaters, but has not yet been given a release date. Waititi also directed the finale of the first season of The Mandalorian.
Krysty Wilson-Cairns, Academy Award nominee, will join Waititi in creating the screenplay for the upcoming Star Wars movie. Wilson-Cairns received outstanding British Film of the Year at the BAFTAs for her work on 1917.
It has also been announced that Leslye Headland is developing a new Star Wars series for Disney+. Headland will executive produce, write, and act as showrunner for the project. A release date for this project has also not been announced as of yet. The new series joins two previously announced Disney+ Star Wars projects: one based on the life of Obi-Wan Kenobi during the time period between Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: A New Hope, and one that focuses on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story‘s Cassian Andor.
