US Citizens Must Register to Visit Most of Europe Starting in 2021

According to CNN, starting in 2021 US citizens visiting many of the countries in the Europe Union will need to register their visit with the European Travel Information and Authorization System. This authorization process will entail “pre-travel screening for security and migration risks of travelers benefiting from visa-free access to the Schengen area.” The Schengen area of Europe is 26 countries on the continent – including Italy, Germany, France, and more – with some key exceptions like the United Kingdom and Ireland.

At this time, US citizens can visit “Europe for up to 90 days without any sort of travel authorization.” That will all change with the introduction of the European Travel Information and Authorization System.

US citizens planning on visiting will need to register online for 7 euros (about $8), and their authorization will last for three years.

This will affect Disney Cruise Line passengers planning on sailing on the Mediterranean, Scandinavian, and other European-based cruises that set sail in 2021 and beyond, as well as Adventures by Disney guests visiting Europe.
