Vox Populi: Disney Fans React to Menu Changes at Their Favorite Disney Restaurants

Let’s be honest, going on a Walt Disney World vacation is not only about characters, rides, and shopping – it’s about all the glorious FOOD too! We all have our favorites; the ones we read about online that we can’t wait to try, the ones we never miss on any trip no matter how often we go, and the ones that we can take or leave.

There has been a recent, rather big change to the breakfast menu at the Kona Cafe located at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort that we want to share. The new menu went into effect over the weekend and if you take a look at the photo below, you’ll notice that the Samoan and The Big Kahuna are both missing from the new selections. The Tonga Toast made the cut, however. It’s been years and years since that breakfast menu has changed and we think that’s why the new menu that was rolled out Saturday, May 6, 2017, is creating somewhat of an uproar.

New Kona Menu2

On the “Menus are changing!” thread over on DISboards.com, everyone is talking about menu changes that have recently taken place at California Grill, Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater, and especially the changes to the breakfast menu at Kona Cafe.

Poster ‘buzzrelly‘ says, “Boo! Thanks for the heads up . . . off to check the website now, since I just made ADRs for both of those places in November!”

Poster ‘maxiesmom‘ wonders if The Big Kahuna might still be able to be put together with the menu items that remain – she says, “…Breakfast at Kona has become a tradition for me and my nephew. He always got the Big Kahuna. Not sure if the new offering with fruit, a muffin, potatoes, eggs, and choice of meat will suffice.”

Poster ‘CabesLove‘ seems to be alright with the changes at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater, but not Kona as she posted, “…I’m kind of relieved Sci-Fi is changing it up. Kona is disappointing. That’s become our breakfast tradition on MK day, but only one member of our party actually cares about tonga toast. The macadamia nut pancakes are simply ‘pancakes’ now, no Big Kahuna, and no Samoan? It may be out for us. Oh well, onto new things!”

Poster ‘Farro‘ says, “Looking at Kona breakfast changes – I think the change from the Samoan to Kona Eggs Benedict sounds delicious! Pork belly for breakfast? Yes, please. They did seem to get rid of Big Kahuna, and also, no choice for blueberry pancakes anymore – although I’m sure you can order pancakes with regular syrup instead of the macadamia nut butter/pineapple sauce.”

I have to say, I’ll miss the blueberry pancakes as that is always my go-to breakfast order at Kona Cafe. Part of me wonders if the chef would still make them if you asked really nicely? Only time will tell, I suppose.
