The re-imagined Test Track presented by General Motors officially opens at EPCOT on July 22, 2025 and it’s an exciting addition to Walt Disney World! We had the chance to preview the attraction in its third iteration, and it might be the best version yet. The track and ride vehicle might look identical, but the queue, storyline, and technology featured in the ride have all drastically changed.

Perhaps what I love most are the nods to World of Motion which once stood where Test Track is now. Some of the music in the attraction features the same notes as “It’s Fun to Be Free,” and the automated car even quotes the song during the ride. Plus, you can see guests loading into the vehicles in the queue, much like you could with World of Motion. It may be subtle, but it’s these types of Easter eggs that make it fun to be a Disney fan!

The queue has two rooms – one featuring GM past and future vehicle prototypes and the other focused on sustainability in the automotive industry. These details remind me of the futuristic and educational component of days past at EPCOT’s Future World.

Once inside the attraction, it feels both futuristic and like a familiar Disney dark ride. There are both physical sets and the use of projection mapping and other technology. I especially love the simulation of driving through the forest, complete with the smell of fresh pine. The finale is, of course, the same race to reach 65 miles per hour as you take a test drive outside the building. This time, the finale has been enhanced with an immersive screen depicting the future of transportation, including flying cars. While this scene happens quickly, it really is a wow moment I wasn’t expecting.

What Test Track 3.0 got right is the original spirit of Walt’s Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT). The attraction both honors the past while also taking on the future of technology. In recent years, it feels like Disney has shied away from original attractions that look into the past and present of what’s possible. This could be because we live in a time of constant advancement or maybe because guests would rather see depictions of their favorite animated films. Either way, it’s great to see this area of EPCOT thriving in a way that feels familiar to my childhood visits to Disney World.

I hope the success of Test Track 3.0 gives momentum to other projects at EPCOT. It would be so satisfying to finally be able to visit a refurbished Wonders of Life Pavilion, have a new show inside the Land Pavilion, or give new life to Spaceship Earth and Journey Into Imagination with Figment. With the updates to EPCOT including GEO-82, World Celebration Gardens, and Journey of Water, it really is such a shame to not want to spend more time in this area of the park. For now, I look forward to experiencing Test Track again and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind before heading over to World Showcase.
