Disney Fans: More Ride Time or Less Wait Time?

In the realms of Disney Parks, we are faced with a handful of different attraction scenarios, where we must weigh up the trade-off between the time we wait in line and the time we have, or the value of the attraction we are waiting for. I’ve often wondered if the average guest would rather breeze through a short line and hop off a ride in two minutes flat, or wait it out for something with a little more storytelling, a few extra thrills, and a longer experience overall. With attractions getting more elaborate and wait times stretching just as long, fans are starting to wonder — is longer always better when it comes to ride time, or would a few quick wins throughout the day be a better use of your precious park hours?

There’s definitely something satisfying about a long, immersive attraction like Avatar Flight of Passage in Disney’s Animal Kingdom or Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. They’re not just rides, they’re full-on experiences that (mostly) justify their lengthy waits and multiple pre-show rooms. But then again, there’s a certain joy in knocking out five classic rides in an hour at rope drop that you can’t replicate in any other way. For some guests, especially families with children or those with limited time, shorter rides and shorter waits mean more memories, more variety, and a lot less grumpiness in the sun. For others, the delight is in the details, with thrills at the top of the agenda and wait times blowing out the majority of the day’s activities.

It’s a tricky balance for Disney. Longer attractions often come with better theming, technology, and storytelling; all the things Disney does best. But not every guest wants to spend 75 minutes waiting for seven minutes of magic. Maybe the real answer lies in variety. Some guests want to be wowed by big headliners, while others just want to spin on the teacups without committing half their morning to it. Either way, it’s clear that the answer to this one will look different for everyone, and we want to know what you think. Do you prefer shorter wait times over longer attractions?
