Is a Split Stay at Disney World Actually Worth It?

A split stay at Walt Disney World (booking two different resorts during one vacation) may sound overwhelming at first. Packing up mid-trip, checking out and checking back in, trusting Bell Services to move your luggage… it can feel like adding one more layer to an already complicated trip.

But if you sit back and think about how you’d like to tour the parks — and enjoy a vacation — a split stay can make practical and financial sense.

Many families go hard at the beginning of their vacation with early alarms set to rope drop Magic Kingdom, spend long afternoons in EPCOT, or stacking as many big attractions as possible into those first few days while energy is high.

That’s where starting at a Value or Moderate resort can really help your budget. Staying at a place like Disney’s Pop Century Resort or Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort during your most park-intensive days lets you keep those nightly costs lower while you’re barely in the room anyway — and still enjoying the amenities and convenience of staying inside the Disney bubble.

Then, you switch it up!

Finishing your trip at a Deluxe resort such as Disney’s Beach Club Resort or Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge changes the pace of your vacation. Instead of racing out the door to rope drop, you might sleep in, enjoy a quiet breakfast, and spend the afternoon at the pool or enjoying the amenities of your resort before heading back to the parks in the evening. Deluxe resorts also offer Extended Evening Theme Park Hours on select nights for eligible guests, which pairs beautifully with a more relaxed morning.

And if you’re going to slow down at a resort, it helps if the resort feels like a destination in itself. For instance, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is filled with delicious restaurants, quicker access to Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, outdoor activities, beachside fireworks views, DOLE Whips, and one breezy monorail ride from Magic Kingdom… all just steps from your room.

My mind also goes to Stormalong Bay, the three-acre pool complex exclusively for Yacht and Beach Club resort guests. With its sand-bottom pool, lazy river, and shipwreck slide, it’s one of the best pools on property.

While we’re on the subject of pool days… right now, Disney is offering complimentary admission to either Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon on your resort check-in day. With a split stay, that means you have two separate check-in days – each are an opportunity to use that water park benefit!

Of course, it isn’t perfect. You do have to pack up between stays. Even though Disney will transfer your luggage between resorts, there’s still a transition in the middle of your trip. You’ll have to reconsider your park plans and dining reservation timing.

But for longer trips (especially 4+ nights), a split stay could balance out your Disney World vacation needs for the better. You’re not paying Deluxe prices for the days you’re out from rope drop to close, and you’re not rushing past the amenities you’re spending more to enjoy.
