Magic Kingdom has officially launched its first nighttime parade in nearly a decade: Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away. The parade debuted on Sunday, July 20th, following surprise soft-opening performances on Friday and Saturday. Packed with glowing LED illuminated floats, beloved characters, and musical storytelling, Starlight brings together classic and modern favorites, with plenty of nostalgic nods to the nighttime parades that came before it. Watch the full parade HERE!
Float Order & Highlights
Opening – Blue Fairy
The Blue Fairy leads the parade as an homage to the Main Street Electrical Parade’s original opener. When You Wish Upon a Star plays within the score, as Pinocchio and Geppetto can be seen just behind the Blue Fairy on the same float.

Wish
Asha from Wish stands beneath a glowing wishing tree, accompanied by Valentino and the Star, with animated sequences playing on LED panels.

Encanto
Mirabel, Isabela and Bruno float along with an oversized glowing Miracle Candle, with dancing lights, butterflies and flowers all around them.

Frozen II
Elsa stands within a swirl of icy fractals, as Into the Unknown plays. Anna, Olaf, and other characters from Frozen make appearances through crystalized digital panels.

Princesses & Princes
Royal couples including Aurora & Prince Phillip, Tiana & Naveen, Belle & Beast, and Cinderella & Prince Charming glide across a cosmic ballroom float accompanied by dreamy instrumentals from their respective films.

Coco
Miguel plays guitar on a glowing marigold bridge. While Dante appears as a static figure beside Miguel, Pepita comes to life in animated form above, as fireworks burst over the Land of the Dead.

Moana
Moana sails her canoe through phosphorescent ocean waves. Gramma Tala’s manta ray spirit swims up in front of the boat — one of the big wow moments in the parade if you can catch it!

Peter Pan
Peter Pan and Wendy are seen underneath a magic moon topped with a second star to the right, all above a glowing London skyline, with Tinker Bell walking just ahead. (This float is intended to feature Peter and Wendy flying overhead, though the technical elements haven’t been fully implemented yet. Here’s hoping it reaches full Neverland glory soon!)

Whimsy Train (Mickey & Friends)
As Whimsy the locomotive approaches, a pixie-dusted modernized version of Main Street Electrical Parade’s Baroque Hoedown plays.

You’ll notice the float alternates between an all-white light sequence and vibrant colors all around — a nod to SpectroMagic. The train cars feature all the favorites, with Goofy, Pluto, Donald and Daisy leading, Dopey and Snow White in a mine train car just behind (another nod to MSEP!), Flynn & Rapunzel with a glowing lantern in their boat, Aladdin & Jasmine on their flying carpet, with Mickey & Minnie waving on the towering caboose.

Disney Starlight Title
The title float is reminiscent of the big ball floats once seen in SpectroMagic, as it’s just a mound of sparkling lights moving along. The best part? The small stardust version of Jiminy Cricket waving goodbye; yet another subtle but clear nod to SpectroMagic.

Starlight Thoughts
The entire parade runs approximately 11 to 15 minutes, with floats arriving in quick succession and minimal interstitial performers. While the parade is beautiful, it is lacking in-between performers and walk-around characters, as there’s currently big breaks between the processional. Perhaps this is intended for crowds? Or will there be more tweaks in the future, including Peter & Wendy flying above their float? Despite my nitpicks, the nighttime experience at Magic Kingdom has felt incomplete since Spectro and MSEP have been gone. It’s so nice to have this quintessential park-after-dark element back!
With two scheduled performances nightly, stepping off at Main Street U.S.A. at 9 PM and 11 PM, Disney Starlight brings fresh energy and nostalgia to Magic Kingdom after dark. There really isn’t a bad place to watch; from the bustling Main Street and castle hub, to Liberty Square and down Frontierland. With towering floats and minimal characters walking the route, you don’t necessarily need a front row spot to enjoy.
Hey everyone, Walt Disney World has a nighttime parade again. Don’t miss it!
