Merry Christmas Eve! I have a small holiday surprise for all my fellow Muppet fans out there, brought to you by the Cast Members at Disney’s Pop Century Resort. While recently perusing the resort’s lobby, I stumbled upon a Christmas wreath decorating contest on display for guests; a friendly Cast Member competition across the various departments. Each of these wreaths are creative and super cute, art is subjective, etcetera… but the winner here is crystal clear. Take a look!
Between Housekeeping & Custodial, Merchandise, Engineering, Food & Beverage, Front Office, Recreation, and Admin, teams of Cast Members submitted decorated wreaths themed to Nightmare Before Christmas, Up, Maleficent, Fantasia, Mickey’s Christmas Carol, and more.
But the winner, at least in my heart and of this competition, is the “salute to all of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but mostly Muppet*Vision 3D“, made by Pop Century’s Front Office. Yay!
Not only are the Muppets featured, which is enough reason alone, but they each represent other current attractions from Disney’s Hollywood Studios. You’ve got Rizzo as Sorcerer Mickey in Fantasmic! (also a nod to when Rizzo dresses as Mickey Mouse during the Muppet*Vision pre-show), Miss Piggy as Elsa in the Frozen Sing-Along, Kermit riding along Runaway Railway, Fozzie dressed as a Tower of Terror bellhop, The Great Gonzo is flying high above in Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, and Sam Eagle is celebrating nighttime pyrotechnics; I’d like to pretend they represent the pyro featured in Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular (2010), as they were the best fireworks at the park. Anyways, Statler and Waldorf are also on display, asking if they have time to ride the Skyliner (since that station at Pop is nearby), but they can’t, since they’re glued to the wreath!
The Front Office team got pretty creative with their felt work, appropriately representing the most Muppety of materials, usage of pipe cleaners, and accenting with the ultimate finishing touch: a pair of 3D glasses from the attraction.
Save Muppet*Vision 3D (and all of those props and the pre-show), Merry Christmas, watch Star Wars: a Galactic Spectacular some time, and good night.
