There’s a new layer of detail waiting for guests inside Animation Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and this is one you’re going to want to slow down and really take in.
We had a little peek at some of them last month, but today we got an early look at all of the newly added Disney character handprints and footprints ahead of the area’s official reopening on May 26, 2026, and we’re taking you along for a full photo tour. As you scroll through, keep an eye out for the small details built into each square. Some of them are easy to miss if you’re scrolling too fast.
These new concrete impressions were inspired by the iconic displays at the real Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, but with a Disney twist. Instead of celebrities, you’ll find beloved Disney Animation characters throughout the area. And that’s where this gets really fun.
Some of these go beyond simple handprints and footprints. Tiana’s square includes a wooden spoon and a strand of pearls, which feels like such a perfect nod to her journey. Mirabel’s features a butterfly, tying back to the magic of Encanto. And then there’s Cinderella, whose design might be one of the best, and also my very favorite! One footprint is bare, while the other is her glass slipper. It’s such a simple detail, but it says everything.

The handprints are along what will be the front of the entrance to The Magic of Disney Animation, which turns what used to be more of a pass-through space into something you’ll actually want to explore. It encourages you to look down, slow your pace, and see how many of your favorite characters you can find.

Animation Courtyard has been in need of a refresh for a while, and this is a great step in that direction. It brings personality back into the space and gives guests something interactive without needing a queue or a Lightning Lane.

If you’re visiting once it reopens, take a few extra minutes here. Walk the full area. Look closely. There’s a lot packed into these designs, and you’ll probably catch something new each time you pass through.
