Walt Disney World has confirmed that Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will temporarily close later this year as part of its annual seasonal operating schedule.
According to the official Walt Disney World website, Typhoon Lagoon’s final day of operation will be September 8, 2026, before the park closes for seasonal maintenance beginning September 9. At this time, Disney has not announced when the water park will reopen. A notice posted on Disney’s website states:
“Starting September 9, 2026, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park will temporarily close. During this time, we encourage Guests to enjoy Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park.”

The seasonal closure comes after a rare summer in which both of Walt Disney World’s water parks have been operating at the same time.
Since May 12, 2026, both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach have welcomed guests as part of Disney’s Cool Kids’ Summer promotion, giving visitors more options to cool off during the warmer months. That limited-time offering continues through September 8, the final day Typhoon Lagoon will be open before its seasonal closure.
This summer has also marked the return of Disney’s complimentary water park benefit for resort hotel guests. Visitors staying at a Disney Resort hotel have been able to enjoy free admission to a water park on their check-in day, with access to either Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach while both parks have been in operation.

Last year, Disney followed a similar seasonal rotation, with Blizzard Beach closing on September 8 while Typhoon Lagoon remained open. This year’s schedule reverses that pattern, allowing Blizzard Beach to remain available while Typhoon Lagoon undergoes its refurbishment.
Extended seasonal closures have become a regular part of Walt Disney World’s water park operations, giving Disney time to complete routine maintenance, repairs, and other refurbishment work during periods of lower attendance. Summer 2025 marked the first time since the 2020 closures that both Walt Disney World water parks have operated simultaneously.
If you’re planning a Walt Disney World vacation later this fall, it’s worth keeping this change in mind!
