iCloud reveals Disney Cruise Line cast member as possible iPhone thief

Thanks to Apple's iCloud technology, Katy McCaffrey was able to catch the alleged thief of her iPhone, stolen on a Disney cruise. McCaffrey's phone disappeared on the Disney Wonder in April, but this week, new photos started showing up on her Cloud. iCloud works as a backup for the iPhone, automatically sending data on the phone to an online storage area. There were several photos of a Disney Cruise Line (DCL) employee named Nelson, still wearing his Disney nametag.

McCaffrey posted 20 photos on Facebook in an album titled "Stolen iPhone Adventures," which show Nelson, other DCL employees and staff-only areas on the ship. In the album's comments, McCaffrey invited viewers to share the album on their own Facebook pages and commented, "I have alerted the officials of the Disney Cruiseline and forwarded them the photos. Hopefully I'll get my phone back and maybe some free passes to Disneyland."

A response was issued from a Disney spokesperson saying that Disney is investigating the incident and the phone has been recovered. The phone is still on the Wonder and will be returned to McCaffrey when the ship returns to port. The crew member in question is on administrative leave and is not allowed in guest areas. However, as commenters on the article point out, Nelson could have purchased the iPhone from someone else or had his photos taken by someone else.
