Disneyland's fireworks temporarily canceled

by Leah Zanolla
Dec 27, 2011

Disneyland has canceled their holiday fireworks show for the fifth time in the past six days. First canceled on December 22, the show has only taken place once since then - on Christmas night. "Believe in Holiday Magic" was canceled Saturday due to unfavorable weather conditions and an unknown technical issue. It is unknown if it's related or not, but a Disney cast member suffered a noise-related injury that night said to be caused by the operation of the fireworks. They were treated and released from the hospital that same evening.

Other than the evening of December 25, the fireworks have been continued to be canceled due to technical difficulties. Disneyland has not released more information on the nature of the problems. Disney spokeswoman Betsy Sanchez said, "We are working diligently to resolve the situation and will host our fireworks as soon as possible. The safety of our cast and guests always takes priority in our decisions." The theme park has not announced when the fireworks will resume; the decision is being made each day.

State investigators are headed to the park tomorrow to check out the situation, but have said that they aren't sure they have any say in when Disney resumes the fireworks.
