"Blackfish," a new documentary made about captive killer whales and the death of a SeaWorld whale trainer
by one of her whales, was shown at the Sundance Film Festival and will come to movie theaters this summer. CNN Films and Magnolia Pictures purchased the U.S. rights to the film after seeing it at the independent film festival. Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles said, " 'Blackfish' is one of the most exciting, compulsively watchable documentaries that we’ve seen in a long time. [It is] a beautiful, eye-opening film that sticks with audiences for a long time."
CNN said that "Blackfish" "chillingly shows that this incident of violence [at SeaWorld Orlando] is hardly an isolated one, along the way exploring the extraordinary nature of Orcas, thought to be one of the most intelligent species in the animal kingdom. Ultimately, it is a story about the life and death consequences of a spectacle that has thrilled millions."
