The Pope House, a 1920s house that was moved backstage during the construction of Disneyland in the 1950s, has been relocated once again.
Well before Disneyland opened, Owen and Dolly Pope were hired by Walt Disney to care for the horses and other animals that would work at Disneyland. The Popes (and their ponies) moved into a trailer on the Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, while plans were being made for the new theme park.
There were several houses that had to be moved or removed during the construction of Disneyland, but the Popes, were allowed to choose one house that would be moved to a backstage area and become their new home while they cared for the animals of Disneyland.
The Popes lived backstage until they moved to Florida in 1971 to help supervise the building of Tri-Circle-D Ranch there, then retired in 1975.
Due to the pending construction of the new Star Wars themed land, the Pope House needed to be relocated once again. The new location is an offsite parking lot on Ball Road.
Disneyland officials have not announced a future use for the Pope House, but said it would remain in its new location.
