Kiosks at Walt Disney World to sell portable chargers for mobile devices

The Walt Disney World resort will be adding FuelRod kiosks across property beginning July 1. These kiosks are basically vending machines selling portable chargers for cell phones and other mobile devices.

For $30, you will get a portable charging battery, 6” USB Type A to micro-USB cable (works on most Android devices), one Apple 30-pin to USB cable, and one Apple Lightning to USB cable.

When the battery’s charge is empty, the battery can be returned to one of the kiosks and swapped out for one with a full charge. They can also be charged back up with the included cable.

There will be kiosks in all four theme parks, ESPN Wide World of Sports, and Disney Springs:

  • Magic Kingdom
    • Tomorrowland Light and Power Co.
    • Big Top Souvenirs
    • Pecos Bill’s
    • Curtain Call Collectibles
  • Epcot
    • Disney Traders
  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios
    • Celebrity 5 & 10
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom
    • Island Mercantile
  • Disney Springs
    • Marketplace Disney Photo Imaging
    • DisneyQuest
  • ESPN Wide World of Sports
    • ESPN Clubhouse Shop

In reading a review of the Fuel Rods, it appears that a fully charged one will get you about 66 percentage points of battery life for a phone.

The charging batteries are yours to keep; this is not a rental program.

Leah grew up in a little farming town in Illinois, right on the Mississippi River. Her Chicago-born husband, David, left the city for her, and they're now raising their three children (Jacob, Jonah and Lydia) just 12 miles from her hometown. As the Senior Editor of the DIS (wdwinfo.com), Leah spends a lot of time writing about, reading about, and discussing Disney. So, it should come as no surprise that one of her family's favorite ways to spend time is going to Walt Disney World and traveling on Disney Cruise Line. She also enjoys shopping, watching movies with her husband and doing crafts with and for her kids.
