A memory came to mind the other day of when I lived in Africa. Our house is the white one at the top of the hill. The area has changed since I lived there; there used to be railroad tracks at the bottom of the picture. One night, my father ran down those steps after a burglar escaped our house. It reminded me why I feel so comfortable when I am strolling through the African village of Harambe in Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World.

Walt Disney World recently announced that they are changing the food menus in the Harambe Market. Harambe Market temporarily closed for refurbishment on October 20th and is expected to reopen in early 2026. They are changing the food items to American offerings like chicken and burgers and other quick-service staples previously found at Restaurantosaurus. That makes me sad that they are taking away some of the African ambience in the area.

One of the things I love about this area is all the little details that are in the Harambe area. Have you ever taken the time to look at all the signs on the buildings? Or looked down at the cement to see the animal prints?

Did you know that the bathrooms in Harambe have outside doors? You may not have noticed, but it is the only park that has the outside doors on the bathrooms as protection in case animals get loose.

Don’t forget to take some time on the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail.

I love to browse the store and see some of the African items for sale.

I hope they don’t Americanize this area any further. They have plenty of room in the rest of the park to accommodate other food preferences.
