Hey Disney Friends, I think we can all agree that this is one announcement that has been a LONG time coming! During D23 Horizons, Disney Experiences Chairman Thomas Mazloum made a huge announcement that sent the crowd into a frenzy: the Yeti is coming back to life inside Expedition Everest at Disneyās Animal Kingdom!
For years, that legendary guardian of the mountain has been a major part of the Expedition Everest experience, even while the attraction’s famous Yeti Audio-Animatronic has remained in its long-running, less exciting, B-mode. Now, Disney is bringing this iconic piece of Imagineering magic back to life, restoring the Yeti to a much more dynamic presence inside the attraction. And yes, there was even a very fitting musical farewell to the current version, with Gloria Gaynor performing her 1978 hit ‘I Will Survive’ for the beloved beast!

If you haven’t experienced Expedition Everest recently, the Yeti is at the heart of the story. The nearly 200-foot Forbidden Mountain is packed with clues about the legendary creature, from the trailside museum and evidence of mysterious attacks to sketches of sightings and a giant Yeti footprint. Once aboard the train, the journey takes guests high into the mountains before the infamous encounter with the creature sends the train racing through the mountain and over those very recognizable torn tracks. My favorite part!
There are still plenty of details to come about exactly what Disney has planned for the returning Yeti, but this is definitely one update I’ll be watching closely. The Yeti is coming back to life, friends, and I have a feeling Expedition Everest is about to become even more thrilling, as if that were even possible!
