Ahmed Sofyan, a former Disney Cruise Line employee, has been sentenced to five years and 10 months in prison for molesting a 13-year-old passenger. Sofyan, 37, of Indonesia, worked on the Disney Dream and took the girl into an empty cabin and molested her.
Sofyan pled guilty to the charges of lewd molestation and false imprisonment. The State’s Attorney, Russ Bousch, was asking for a 10 year sentence, but the judge lowered the sentence to 5 years 10 months. Bousch said, “I think we were being very reasonable. I feel like the sentence was a little lenient in this case. The last thing they had on their mind was that a crew member of a Disney company boat would assault their daughter this way.”
The girl’s brother read a statement to the judge, “Our family is currently still picking up the pieces, making phone calls and praying for resolution. I am unable to talk about the details of this crime without crying or shaking. None of us want to discuss this cruise, which has definitely turned into a nightmare.”
Sofyan apologized to the family and said he “regrets the decision he made that day.” He will be deported to Indonesia after serving his sentence.
