After what felt like an eternity without the “wildest ride in the wilderness,” Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has officially reopened at Disneyland Park, and a little earlier than expected! The beloved Frontierland attraction surprised guests over the weekend when reports began surfacing of the queue once again filling with eager riders ready to brave the twisting tracks through the desert buttes of Rainbow Ridge.

The attraction originally closed earlier in the year for a scheduled refurbishment, which was later extended beyond its initially projected reopening window, sparking speculation that the ride might remain closed much longer than anticipated. The sight of trains rumbling through the mountain again brought a wave of excitement to fans who had resigned themselves to a long wait. While Disney hasn’t shared details on what prompted the early reopening, or whether the attraction could close again before the refurbishment officially concludes (I’m always cautious of this emotional rollercoaster), parkgoers are thrilled to have it back in action.

Meanwhile, on the opposite coast, Magic Kingdom’s version of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad remains closed for its own extended refurbishment. The Florida favorite is currently expected to reopen on January 6th, 2026, though that date remains subject to change. For now, Disneyland guests can celebrate being the lucky ones to get an early return to one of the most iconic and joyfully chaotic rides in Disney history. So grab your hat and hold on tight; it’s time to head back into the wilderness!
