The Reddit user wrote that the child “had been sitting on the rock wall and jumped in,” adding that while the child appeared to have been injured, “it seemed minor.” The post was later updated to clarify that the incident occurred on June 25 after the original post mistakenly listed the wrong date.
The video shows the child inside the enclosure as nearby adults and cast members work to bring the situation to a safe conclusion. According to comments from the subreddit’s moderation team, the child had reportedly been told not to climb on the rock wall before entering the enclosure and was then unable to climb back out.
The post quickly generated discussion among Disney fans, with many expressing concern over the dangerous situation and reminding guests that the barriers around the resort’s savannas are there for everyone’s safety. The discussion thread was ultimately locked by moderators after conversations became increasingly uncivil.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is home to several savannas where guests can observe a variety of African wildlife, including giraffes, zebras, Ankole cattle, gazelles, and other species from designated viewing areas. While the animals are separated from guests by carefully designed barriers, climbing or crossing those barriers is prohibited for guest safety as well as the well-being of the animals.
Disney has not publicly commented on the incident, and no official information has been released regarding whether the child required medical attention or whether any of the animals were affected.
As always, guests visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge are encouraged to remain behind designated barriers and follow all posted safety instructions while enjoying the resort’s unique wildlife viewing experiences.
