A Disneyland guest has died after experiencing the park’s classic Haunted Mansion attraction, Entertainment Weekly has confirmed.
Following online reports that a woman had died while riding the holiday overlay themed to The Nightmare Before Christmas, EW verified with a source that a guest was taken from Disneyland in Anaheim, California, to a nearby hospital on Monday.
Matt Sutter of the Anaheim Police Department told EW in an email that “Anaheim Fire & Rescue responded to the Disneyland Resort for an unresponsive woman in her 60s who had just finished riding the Haunted Mansion attraction,” adding that “Disneyland security personnel provided CPR until paramedics arrived.”
According to Sutter, the woman “was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.” The Orange County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office will determine the cause of death at a later time.
The guest’s death follows a separate tragedy less than a month ago, when a man died while riding the Stardust Racers roller coaster at Universal’s new Epic Universe theme park, which opened in May.
The Haunted Mansion, one of Disneyland’s most iconic attractions, first opened in 1969 in the New Orleans Square area of the park. The seasonal Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay, inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas, debuted in 2001 and has become a longtime fan favorite during the Halloween and Christmas seasons.
