The third Thursday of July is officially National DOLE Whip Day but this is a holiday Disney Parks fans celebrate all year long! Growing up, no Walt Disney World vacation was complete without a classic DOLE Whip from Aloha Isle in the Magic Kingdom. Since then, Disney has expanded its DOLE Whip offerings across multiple theme parks, resorts, and even Disney Springs!
To kick off the celebration, Disney hosted us on a “DOLE Whip Dash” across Disney World and, WOW, there were even more offerings than I realized! We decided to complete our own Magic Kingdom version of this DOLE Whip challenge and it did not disappoint.
We started the DOLE Whip party off right with a visit to the Pineapple Lanai at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Here you can get the classic DOLE Whip by itself or swirled with vanilla in either a cup or as a float with pineapple juice. One unique option here is to add a coconut rum floater to your Dole Whip for $14… and we went for it! I personally loved the coconut flavor mixed with the pineapple juice in the float. This was a winner, especially on an afternoon break!
Our next stop led us to Disney’s Contemporary Resort for a not-so-traditional DOLE Whip – the DOLE Whip cupcake! You can grab this pineapple treat for $5.99 inside the resort’s quick-service restaurant, Contempo Café. It’s a vanilla cake filled with DOLE Whip mousse and pineapple buttercream frosting. We recently tried this cupcake during our review of Contempo Café and were pleasantly surprised by how it good it was! It’s not overly sweet with too much frosting and somehow tastes exactly like a DOLE Whip.
Finally it was time for the main event, Aloha Isle at the Magic Kingdom! We decided to mix it up a little bit by getting the pineapple upside-down cake topped with DOLE Whip for $6.99. This decadent pineapple dessert has been around for a while at Aloha Isle, but this was my first time trying it and I have to say, I was a little disappointed! The cake was very dense and a little dry. The classic pineapple soft-serve was undoubtedly the star.
While in Adventureland, we had to pay a visit to our friend, the Orange Bird over at the Sunshine Tree Terrace. The citrus swirl is now also made by DOLE and a different recipe than the classic version. We love and celebrate you DOLE Whip, but let Orange Bird have his own thing.
We finished our DOLE Whip dash by getting even more creative at Storybook Treats in Fantasyland. This snack location is known for its super fun princess-themed ice cream sundaes and cones. This time we had the Rapunzel Sundae for $7.79 – it is a shortcake topped with wild berry soft-serve, DOLE Whip lemon, berry compote, and sugar flowers. Our first reaction was, “Wow, there’s a lot going on here!” The flavor of the wild berry with lemon was so refreshing on a hot day, plus the berry compote and shortcake gave it just the right amount of sweetness and texture. I’m surprised to say I would absolutely get this one again!
If you’re looking to make a complete DOLE Whip Dash, you can also find DOLE Whips at Refreshment Outpost in EPCOT, Tamu Tamu Refreshments in Animal Kingdom, the Snack Shack and the Warming Hut at Typhoon Lagoon, and Swirls on the Water at Disney Springs.
So here’s to you, DOLE Whip! We love you and all the fond snack memories we’ve made at Walt Disney World!
